Richard Dowling and Cormac Gollogy became the first same-sex couple to get married in Ireland.

Ireland legalized same-sex marriage nationwide and same-sex couples were finally allowed to wed today, including Dowling and Gollogy who have gone through the process of turning their civil partnerships into a full-fledged marriage license. Although this is a glorious achievement for Ireland and same-sex couples, many gay couples like Dowling and Gollogy, feel their real wedding was when they got their civil partnership.

The two have been together for over 12 years but wanted to wait to become engaged until they could finally be announced as husbands. The couple eventually got engaged in Spain. Their wedding was a traditionally lavish one with top hats and tailcoats.

According to a news source, Gollogy told reporters: “I really wanted to thank everyone in the Yes Equality campaign, their hard work really paid off.”
